PFW is releasing another anthology, so you know I jumped on it. I’m super thankful to have gotten another of their ARCs, and this one is quite possibly my favorite yet. It’s definitely their best anthology yet, and if they keep improving their quality at this rate I’m going to have to create a six-star rating or something. XD Anyway, into the actual review. (And here’s the necessary disclaimer that even though I got an ARC I wasn’t required to give a positive review and this is all my honest opinion.) “What was there in life, if not an endless wrestling against an unconquerable foe?”
Freedom doesn’t bring the peace the nation of Maraiah hoped for.
Giants, soldiers, and nomads fill the promised homeland—and they’ll do anything to hold onto power.
Thrown into an unfamiliar landscape and constant danger, Maraiah struggles to maintain her identity.
It’s a time of faith. Aia raises up Stewards to stand between His people and death. He works great miracles through them, reshaping the very ground of the promised land.
It’s a time of disappointment. Home looks nothing like Maraiah had dreamed. Generations drag on, and still violence, confusion, and doubt abound.
Will a Steward ever truly establish peace?
These seven short stories take place between Child of the Kaites and The Steward’s Apprentice, providing snapshots of key figures whose struggles with pride, trust, courage, and identity shape Maraiah’s future. Continue reading “Book Review: Steward Stories by Beth Wangler”
Sooooo, my favorite group of indie authors ever (if you haven’t heard of the Phoenix Fiction Writers by now you’re either new or you’ve not been paying any attention) holds a sale every year, so you can get a good number of their books and their merch at a significant discount. If you’ve been procrastinating Continue reading “PFW Sale Announcement!”
The Phoenix Fiction Writers released a new short story anthology on Saturday, and I was fortunate enough to get to read an ARC! If you follow me on Goodreads you’ve probably already seen this review, but I’m super excited to share my thoughts on the collection here, as well. So without further ado, the review! Continue reading “Book Review: Strange Waters by Phoenix Fiction Writers”
At the beginning of this year I set a goal to read all of the Phoenix Fiction Writers’ books that I could get in paperback, by the end of the year. If I remember correctly that list was 25 books long, and so far I’ve read three off the list (as well as four PFW books that weren’t on my list, including a reread). I’m looking forward to significantly growing that number over the next few months, but for now I’m happy to focus on the lovely book that is The Traveler.
First off, I was immediately struck by how atmospheric Continue reading “Book Review: The Traveler by E.B. Dawson”
