I wrote about 24,500 words last month, out of my 45,000 goal. I don’t know how much of that went toward The Shadow Raven in the end, but it’s words toward something, at the very least, lol. There were a few days – including a couple in a row earlier this week – that I got a lot written of The Shadow Raven (1,500+), but overall it’s still slow going.

I didn’t write nearly as much as I wanted to in July. My original Camp NaNo goal was 50k, but near the end I decided to lower it to 30k because I just wasn’t writing as much as I wanted to and I knew I wouldn’t make it to 50k. I did make it to 30k, though, so I did get a pretty good amount written.
My main focus in July was editing The Heart of the Baenor, and I did finish that, so that’s good. I’ve been enjoying editing a lot with this story, but I’m glad to be done with the third draft and glad to take a break from it for August. I’ve been editing for a really long time, it feels like, and so even though I’m enjoying seeing it get better I’m also getting a little burnt out on it and I think my taking a brief break is going to be good for me and for the story. I wrote a total of 45,229 this month. Some of that was on The Shadow Raven, some was on The Heart of the Baenor, some was on blogging and some was on a short story that I started writing as a possibility to enter into the Story Embers writing contest at the last minute and decided against.
The Shadow Raven is up to 75,915 words now, which means it’s longer than The Last Assassin, but there’s still a month and a half of story time before it’ll catch up with The Last Assassin sufficiently that I can move on to The King’s Paladin and get that caught up. And then I have to be super careful and strategic about which scenes I write in which books and from who’s POV and things start to get really complicated. But it’ll be fun! Once I get there. The Shadow Raven apparently has longer chapters than The Last Assassin, considering it’s almost 76k with 23 chapters and The Last Assassin is approximately 74k with 30 chapters.

We’re already halfway through the year. Yikes! I think that means it’s time for a reevaluation of the year’s goals (which is something like three months overdue), and I’m going to snag the Spring Cleaning Writer Challenge Tag (now that it should be summer) from Melissa at Quill Pen Writer. My Camp goal was to edit every chapter of The Heart of the Baenor that I’d already written and then write the remainder of it, while keeping up with my Alphabet Blogging Challenges on here and on Our Mind Palace. I did get all of the chapters edited, I finished on Sunday, and I did keep up with my blogging challenges for a long time.
