I’ve only written a total of 19,891 this month, which is a lot less than I’d like. Things haven’t gone well this month with The Shadow Raven; I thought I finally had it sorted out about halfway through the month and was able to write another chapter, but then I got stuck again and now I’m not sure where I want it to go.

Let’s get the bad out of the way up front. I intended this month to publish both This Is His Story and The Mirror-Hunter Chronicles. Obviously neither happened, one of which wasn’t really my fault, and I’m sorry. I still intend to publish The Mirror-Hunter Chronicles, but I have to, um, finish them first. I’m working on story 4/6, but it’s going a little bit slowly. After #3 I didn’t have a whole lot of concrete ideas, so now it’s a lot more making it up as I go, which is fun but a little slower. (I’ve definitely fallen out of my place in the pantser camp that I so adamantly remained in until last year.)

We’re already a full month into 2018. Wow.
The first half of my month was swallowed by procrastination because I limited myself to finishing the last five short stories for my collection. I finished one of those, and then a few days ago I decided to let go of the last four and I feel so much better for doing so. This update will be a longer than usual because, in addition to wrapping up December, I’m also wrapping up 2017.
I wrote a total of about 20,556 words last month, completing seven short stories (out of seventeen) and nothing else. My novels have been on hold for the holiday season, but I’ll be getting back into them starting today. Continue reading “Happy New Year!”
