(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 15-28, 2017

I’m having trouble getting into the rhythm of doing these every week. XP

October 15 – 3,466

This was the day I got home from a weekend trip, so I only had time to finish that week’s short story. Fortunately, Continue reading “(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 15-28, 2017”

The Struggle of Sitting Down To Write

The Struggle of Sitting Down To Write

Unlike the person in this post’s image, I am not off traveling. But my brain constantly is. At hyperspeed. See, if I had the chance to travel, I’d take the time to enjoy the places I went and savor the trip. My brain, on the other hand, zips around from one topic to another at top speed, making it really hard to focus on anything. Which, of course, includes writing.

I find it extremely hard to start writing. Once I’ve begun and gotten into it, it’s a lot easier for me to stay focused, but being able to keep my brain in check long enough to get started is a struggle. So how do you overcome that? Continue reading “The Struggle of Sitting Down To Write”

(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 1-14, 2017

Oops. I kind of forgot I was doing these two weeks ago, and then I was out of town yesterday and couldn’t put together last week’s, so this is really late, but here’s my update for the past two weeks.

How To Write Likeable Characters

How To Write Likeable Characters

I’ve decided that the key to writing likeable characters is to make them complex and layered. Characters are what I – and I think most readers – connect to and come to love most in a book, so it’s important to write them well.

I will like pretty much any type of character – creepy psychopaths, classic villains, flirts, princesses, peasants, assassins, blacksmiths, con men – so long as they haven’t done anything utterly unforgivable… And so long as they’re deep and layered. Unless it’s a spoiled brat of a princess, in which case Continue reading “How To Write Likeable Characters”

The Leibster Blog Award

The Leibster Blog Award

I was just nominated for the Leibster Award by Kaylan over at No Two Paths. Her blog name was inspired by Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken,” and specifically these lines:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

That’s really cool.

Thanks for the nomination, Kaylan!

What is the Leibster Blog Award?

In short, Continue reading “The Leibster Blog Award”
