Why I Write

Why I Write

I write for my readers. I write to make them feel. I write to make them connect with my characters to the same extent that I have, to make them care about fictional people as much as other authors have made me connect with their fictional people. When I get to see those reactions – their laughter or screaming or crying – it tells me that I’ve done a good job and I’ve done what I intended to do.

That’s why I adore my little mini fandom so much. Three friends of mine are reading The Last Assassin as I write it, and it’s amazing Continue reading “Why I Write”

Character Interview: Tren Devlen

Character Interview: Tren Devlen

Tren is a secondary character in The Last Assassin, and the prince of Kaloris. He and Catessa become friends fairly early on in the book, and he introduces her to what turns out to be her favorite book. I hope you enjoy his interview. Continue reading “Character Interview: Tren Devlen”

My Story Binder

My Story Binder

Something that’s mentioned fairly often but doesn’t get talked about clearly is a story bible/story binder. I’ve loved the idea of having a story binder for a while, and I started making one for House of Mages, but it didn’t really go anywhere. There’s not a lot of guidance for writers who want to make one. Well I went looking back in April and decided to start a story binder for my Camp story, The Heart of the Baenor. It now also holds the notes for The Dark War Trilogy, since they take place on the same planet, and I thought I’d share with you what I included in my story binder in case you’re in the same boat I was in and are wondering what to include Continue reading “My Story Binder”

Music – Short Story Sunday

Music – Short Story Sunday

All right, so this is really late being published because I was out of town this weekend and didn’t have a lot of time to work on it. As such it’s also a bit rougher than some of my other short stories, and please keep in mind that I am a novelist, not a songwriter, so the lyrics of these songs might not be the most spectacular because I didn’t have a lot of time to look over them. Anyway, I hope that despite all of that you’ll enjoy this. :) Continue reading “Music – Short Story Sunday”

(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 1-14, 2017

(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 1-14, 2017

Oops. I kind of forgot I was doing these two weeks ago, and then I was out of town yesterday and couldn’t put together last week’s, so this is really late, but here’s my update for the past two weeks.

October 1 – Word Count: 448

The beginning of Preptober, as we NaNoWriMo participants call the month of October. A time to plan out our NaNos and get hyped up for the event. I put the novel information up for The Shadow Raven on the NaNoWriMo site (you can find it here, if you’re interested in reading the synopsis and an excerpt and seeing the temporary cover) and did some worldbuilding. Unfortunately, I didn’t Continue reading “(Bi)Weekly Writing Update – October 1-14, 2017”
